I'm Wahida, the founder of Go Learn Science and a dedicated science educator with over 15 years of experience in secondary education. My journey into science was deeply personal, sparked by my mother’s battle with sarcoidosis, a chronic heart and lung condition diagnosed in 1992. As her young carer from the age of 11, I grew curious about the underlying causes of diseases and how conditions like hers are inherited. This curiosity ultimately led me to study Genetics and Microbiology at Queen Mary University of London, setting the foundation for my career in science education.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of serving as Assistant Headteacher for seven years and Director of Science for five. I was promoted to Head of Science in my first year of teaching, a role that fuelled my commitment to helping students excel. My passion for teaching has resulted in a consistent 100% pass rate for my students, with many achieving top grades of 7-9 and making more than two grades of progress.
As a GCSE examiner for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics for over a decade, I’ve gained key insights into the exam process and what students need to achieve top marks. This experience has shaped my teaching, enabling me to focus on core knowledge while also providing the exam techniques and critical thinking skills essential for success. My aim is to fully prepare students to excel academically and beyond.
For me, science is more than just passing exams—it’s about igniting curiosity and critical thinking. Watching my students experience those "light bulb moments" is deeply fulfilling. I want them to not only achieve academically but to become the future scientists, doctors, and engineers who will change the world, whether through breakthroughs like the COVID-19 vaccine or innovations that shape our daily lives.
In addition to teaching, I’m a published scientist with research on the Annamox and Nitrogen Cycles. Today, my science curriculum is used in over 90 schools across the country, providing students with the tools they need to not only achieve top grades but also develop a lifelong love for learning.
At Go Learn Science, my mission is to make science both accessible and transformative, creating an inclusive environment where every student, regardless of their background, can thrive. I’m here to support the next generation of curious minds, helping them build the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in top colleges, universities, and ultimately, in shaping a better future for us all.
